Protestor remains atop a cable logger
in the Tyenna Valley
Today 10
conservationists halted logging operations in coupe TN026C in the Tyenna
Valley. Police arrived at the site this morning and gave orders to the group to
leave the site or otherwise be arrested. While most of the group left, one protester
remains in the coupe, perched atop cable logging machinery. A platform is
attached to the machine, approximately 15 meters above the ground.
“These high conservation value forests should
have been under moratorium weeks ago, yet they are still falling. The committed
conservationist perched 15 meters above the ground and attached to cable
logging machinery demonstrates the fact that the Tasmanian community has had
enough. As long as the forests are falling Tasmanians will continue to take a
stand and defend these forests” said Miranda Gibson, spokesperson for Still
Wild Still Threatened
